In the Caribbean dynamic human-environmental interactions can have profound impacts on society, and as such must be understood so that proper intervention methods can be facilitated to offset and mitigate against various challenges which may arise in the region.As such these lectures have been developed as a capacity-building initiative to expose university students and early career researchers to essential skills which can be utilized in their respective fields to manage relevant issues in both the physical and social sciences.This course series is designed to introduce university students and early career researchers to theoretical concepts and essential skills required in both the physical and social sciences. The main themes of this course series include:1.DISASTER MANAGEMENT IN THE PACIFIC AND THE CARIBBEAN - The importance of effective disaster risk management for Small-Island Developing States (SIDS)" introduces disaster management concepts in the Pacific and the Caribbean region.2.BASIC BIOGEOGRAPHIC FIELD TECHNIQUES - The basics of environmental monitoring exposes university students and environmental scientists at all levels to traditional and modern techniques utilized by environmental scientists.3.FUNDAMENTALS OF UAV FLIGHTS - Participants will learn the basics of drone technology, applications of drones in environmental monitoring & the types of drone flights and essential software.4.THE ESSENTIALS OF SOCIAL DATA COLLECTION - The essentials of social data collection will familiarize participants to traditional and modern techniques utilized by social scientists, XLS programming skills, biogeographic skills and the basic guidelines which will allow participants to properly develop questionnaires.
