In the 1970s every town had a local TV repair shop. Some were independent and only had one shop, others were part of a large chain. They could be one that operated only within an area or others owned by national organisations or manufacturers operating on a national basis.
The intrepid men and women who serviced this equipment brought engineering to the community. Their ability to fix anything with a plug attached was only surpassed by their endeavors to drink as much tea and coffee as could possibly be served to them. They were only out-paced with this latter task by the representatives of the various supply companies they dealt with.
This book charts the trials and endeavours of a young apprentice engineer and the other engineers, customers and people he meets along the way in a journey to becoming a field engineer. Dealing with customers and manufacturers alike, with humour and perseverance. As well as watching other engineers deal with customers and animals with patience and terror in equal measures. It is a humorous and not technical look at a now sadly passed trade.
